Before the advent of automobiles, the railroad would bring passengers into Ethridge. People could catch the train in the morning and take it north to Nashville. They could then catch a train back to Ethridge at around 8pm.
In the early 1900s, people began building houses in the area. People came from all over the country to purchase land in the region.
In the years that followed, people built homes and businesses in the vicinity. Four sawmills were nearby. When a train came through, people would leave their horses in the livery stables.

Eventually, people started building businesses along the railroad. This included several grocery stores. For several years, only Campbellsville was a cattle market. But when a railroad depot was built in 1898, businesses began to spring up near the Wayne Station.

Amish clothing

Men typically wear a broad-rimmed straw hat, and a dark vest or suit. Women usually wear an apron. Some women may have long hair. A kapp, or prayer covering, is worn over the hair.
Many Amish communities have one-room schools. These schools allow Amish children to learn about a variety of crafts. However, the Amish do not educate their children past eighth grade.
When visiting an Amish community, you will see a modest barn and porch. You will also notice clotheslines hanging from the trees. This is an iconic part of Amish Country.
The Amish live in large families. Traditionally, there are seven or eight children in an Amish household. During the summer months, men wear straw hats. During winter, they may wear wool shrouds or bonnets.
Amish ladies wear a black cap or a kapp, a white or black prayer covering. Young girls often wear a black kapp until they get married.
In some communities, women have their long hair pinned underneath the prayer covering. For girls, it is sometimes trimmed before baptism.
